Palamós, Spain
The Costa Brava is world famous for its secluded beaches, crystal clear water and rugged coastline. Palamós lies along this stretch of the Mediterranean in Spain, between Girona and Barcelona.
Hiking in Palamós Spain
Palamós is located roughly halfway along the Cami de Ronda, a 43km (27 miles) hiking trail along the cliffs, coves and beaches. So if you can easily hike both up and down the coast from here, enjoying the smell of the pine forest.
It would be an exageration to call this a hidden gem, given how many people visit the Costa Brava each year. But not as many hike it. And the farther away you go from convenient parking lots, the more authentic the area looks.
Casitas
You will see what used to be fishermen’s houses, casitas, with doors painted in every color. Traditional Catalan architecture like this has many little arches on the ceilings, the facades mostly painted white.
These days, restaurants, small tourist accommodations, kayak rentals and shops, replaced the fishermen of Palamós, Spain. Kayaking is a great way to explore the many bays and coves, so is stand-up paddle boarding and sailing.
Calas
Locals call them calas, most have small beaches and some of them you can access from the trail by steep stairs down from the cliff. The water near the beaches is so shallow, it appears bright turquois.
Rock formations rise from the water, some large enough to warrant their own lighthouse, warning passing boats in the dark.
Dali’s influence on Palamós
