Are you wonderin where to stay in Barcelona, close to everything but with that secret spot to get away from the buzz for a while? In central Barcelona these are the gardens, terraces and rooftops. I wrote about rooftop bars already, check out the article for details.
Today let’s focus on two places to stay in downtown Barcelona that give you that retreat.
The Mihlton
Firstly, the Mihlton Barcelona Hotel and Breakfast (MBH&B), located off the famous Rambla de Catalunya in n’t l’Eixample quarter. I first experienced this gem during a wine tasting on the large terrace.
The owner is delightfully funny Austrian gentleman who takes the wellfare of his guests serious. His attention to detail is evident not only in the design, but also the amenities. I’ve never seen a B&B with such variety of cheeses and local meats for breakfast!
Guests receive a brochure with a self-guided walk around the neighborhood that doesn’t lead pass the touristy spots. But unique places that teach you about the quirky history of the city.
Even though the B&B’s style honours the elegant l’Eixample building it is an affordable place to stay in Barcelona’s city center. It’s perfect if you are exploring Barcelona on a budget.
The Cotton House Hotel
For a more upscale experience, stay at the 5 star Cotton House just a few block away on Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes. This hotel is part of the Authograph Collection and does not feel the typical Marriott property.
The Cotton house also has a bar and restaurant with terrace in the courtyard. The QR code for the menu comes attached to a branch from a cotton plant. The furniture and greenery is places in a way that allows privacy in every corner and makes you feel like you are enjoying your cocktail in a green oasis.
You can enjoy this restaurant when you are not a staying at the hotel too! Chances are, you’ll be nearby anyway at some point during your sightseeing in Barcelona.
