6 ways to relive travel memories during social distancing
Wether you are in quarantine, lockdown or just general social distancing – it’s the perfect time to pick up a new hobby that keeps you at home. And for us traveling folk, I suggest it should be something that lets us relive our great travel memories. In the end, what is a trip really worth if you didn’t learn anything from it? So, here are a few ideas of things to do during quarantine.
Make a Photo Album of your beloved memories
Have your favorite photos from your last trip printed. Honestly, it’s nicer to hold them in your hands than to look at them digitally. And while you’re at it, have a pretty photo album delivered and put them in order. If you can stand your handwriting, add some notes of places, times and people to preserve for eternity.
Scrapbooking
If you’re feeling really crafty, why not try scrapbooking? I warn you, it’s easy to get carried away with this, because there is so much content out there. This way you can incorporate tickets and other snippets from your trips. I recently did one with dried leaves from the Canadian Indian Summer. Honoring great memories.
Make a video
This year I learned about the app InShot. It makes it very easy to edit videos with music and effects. There are so many other easy to use and free apps available. We all have these videos on our phones of moments we wanted to hold on to. This is the time to put them all together and turn them into art.
Cook the food you loved
If you’re like me, one of the things you’ll rememeber most about your favorite detination is the food you ate. We may not be able to cook authentic foods from around the world in our home kitchens, but hey who says we can’t try? So do some research and make that dish, whether it was the Indonesian Nasi Goreng or the Mexican Tacos that you loved. Find a recipe and learn to cook something new.
Watch a documentary or movie
If you’ve been reading my blog for a while you know that I spent several years living in Barcelona. Now, when I watch “Vickie, Cristina, Barcelona” every scene shows a place in the city that I have personal memories at. I could pause the movie and tell these stories every 2 minutes. Don’t you love that feeling when you see a movie or a documentary about places or animals you have actually seen for yourself, doing things on camera you have seen them do in real life? This one time in South Africa, Fabi and I saw these lions feasting on a drowned wildebeest…
Write down the stories
Have you ever considered writing? Articles, a blog, short stories or maybe a novel? Has there ever been a better time to start doing that? Writer will tell you to write about what you know. And that stories are what people remember. So write down your stories. Write about that strange place you found in the woods and the characters you envisioned there. Write about that long drive on backroads, that view during the hike, that funny moment during your last family vacation. Tell us! And when you have the content you fill find your style and voice. Now is the time to start.
